This is the continuation of Pt 1, which I posted a while ago ^^
Last time, I reviewed the main stories of Leo/need, MORE MORE JUMP! And Vivid BAD SQUAD. This time, I’ll be reviewing the stories of the remaining two units, Wonderlands x Showtime and Nightcord at 25:00. Please be warned that there ARE spoilers for these stories, so go read them before you check this out~
Now, we have Wonderlands x Showtime! This unit performs at the theme park Phoenix Wonderland, and aim to revive the dying Wonder Stage by putting on shows that make everyone smile.
Positive Points:
I’d probably consider this the funniest main story overall, because of Emu and Tsukasa’s initial interactions… I laughed a ton.
However, it doesn’t fail on the sad parts either! The ferris wheel scene was utterly heartbreaking…
I loved Tsukasa’s whole development. The way he started off only wanting fame, but eventually remembered the true point of his dream… I really enjoyed it.
Negative Points:
On another note regarding Tsukasa, I don’t really get how Tsukasa straight-up… forgets a crucial part of his dream. Like, his dream was to become an actor to make Saki cheer up, right? It’s not like Saki disappeared or anything, which would cause him to lose focus on that part of his dream, so how did he forget???
I feel like the story doesn’t really give Nene (and kind of Rui too) much focus. This is, of course, remedied by the event stories, as Rui and Nene get the first and second Wonderlands x Showtime events respectively, but I would’ve liked to see more of them here as well.
Lastly, Nightcord at 25:00. This group meets online on a platform named Nightcord, and together, they produce music videos that they post online.
Positive Points:
I really liked how Mafuyu was written. She represents a ton of people who are going through the same thing (being pushed to do something by parents, and going along with it because they’re afraid of speaking up), and I like that.
Kanade’s savior complex is interesting to me. She failed to save her father (or, more accurately, she “killed” him), and as a sort of way of self-redemption, she desperately wants to compose a song that will save Mafuyu. Otherwise, her talents will only be able to hurt people and never save them.
Negative Points:
I feel like essentially the entirety of this unit is almost ONLY characterized by their (for the lack of a better word) emotional issues??? Don’t get me wrong, I think that could totally happen, and it’s nice to have attention called to them, but it almost feels as if their only significant trait is each problem they have. It just doesn’t really fit my personal taste that much.
Honestly though, how exactly would you save someone with music…?? Mafuyu’s problems definitely lie deeper than just being unable to find a song that resonates with her. I certainly think writing a song would be a possible step to saving Mafuyu, but it’s not like it would be able to solve everything.
That’s all the main stories in the game~ Now that I’ve finished this, I’d like to announce my retirement from this blog. I’ll be focusing more time on my Journalism activities, so you won’t see me anymore. I’ll might occasionally write as a guest writer if I have the time though~ And with that out of the way, thank you for reading, have a good day, and bye (for now)!
